There is no one perfect method when it comes styling a flatlay, here are a few tips and tricks from a pro to take your insta from basic to #goals.
Determine your theme. This could be something as concrete as packing essentials for your next vacation, to something as abstract as all things black & white. The key is to establish a common thread to tell a story with the image.
Coordinate colors + patterns. Create synergy and keep your image easy on the eye. For example, if you’re styling your London vacay image, you might choose to use minimalist colors and moody prints. Or, If you prefer a colorful palette, you can pull in travel elements and festive colors + patterns.
Variety is key. When selecting items for your flatlay, create visual interest and balance by using a variety of different sizes, quantities and textures.
Choose a composition style. There are a million different ways you can lay out your items, so start by determining your style and the purpose of the image. I am partial to linear and straight lines. It's totally cool to go with a messy or lived in style.
Break the rules. Truthfully there is no right and wrong way to style a flatlay. Don’t get hung up on rules, just have fun getting creative. Finding your own style and playing in the grey area is always more fun, anyways!
